WBO Junior Lightweight Champion Jamel Herring is set to defend his 130-pound title against Shakur Stevenson — the interim junior lightweight champ — on Saturday, October 23. The event will be broadcasted live from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia and can be viewed on ESPN+.
It's bound to be a massive contest, especially with each boxer set to earn at least $1.5 million. Both men certainly have to right to call themselves two of the best combatants on the planet, however, only one of them can walk out victorious.
Fortunately, FanDuel Sportsbook has released its opening odds for the fight so that fans can have a better idea as to who's likely to win next month.
Herring vs Stevenson Odds
Herring will actually enter the State Farm Arena in October as the +530 underdog as he looks to make his fourth WBO Junior Lightweight Championship defense. Meanwhile, Stevenson sits as the overwhelming -950 favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
An Olympic silver medalist in 2016, Steveson is undefeated in his professional boxing career. He's a perfect 16-0, winning exactly half of his bouts by KO/TKO and the other half via decision. His most recent win came by unanimous decision over Jeremiah Nakathila back in July for the WBO interim junior lightweight title.
On the other hand, Herring sits 23-2 on his career, winning 11 of his bouts via knockout. The 35-year-old has been on a hot streak over the last few years, winning each of his last seven matches. He won his title from Masayuki Ito back in May 2019 and most recently successfully defended it against Carl Frampton back in April, winning by TKO.
