For most of the season, J.D. McKissic has been viewed as little more than a thorn in the side of Antonio Gibson's fantasy managers. But that has changed significantly since Alex Smith took over.

And now that Gibson is dealing with a toe injury, McKissic's fantasy outlook could be set to explode.

Antonio Gibson Injury Update

Gibson suffered a toe injury last night that kept him out for the rest of the game. There's nothing concrete about his injury quite yet, but he certainly doesn't look like a lock to suit up in Week 14 at this point.

And if Gibson is forced to miss time, McKissic should be looking at a real uptick in value.

J.D. McKissic Fantasy Outlook

Since Alex Smith entered the mix in Week 9, McKissic has handled an absurd 9.0 targets per game. For reference, Terry McLaurin is averaging 9.0 targets per game for the year, and that represents the ninth-best mark in the NFL.

McKissic is turning that volume into 6.2 catches for 45.0 receiving yards per game in that time, making him a serious asset in PPR formats. He's also adding 16.0 yards per game on 4.6 carries.

If Gibson is forced to miss any time in the near future, McKissic should be looking at an uptick in both targets and carries. Just taking a look at what he did with an increased role in Week 13, handling 15 touches for 78 yards from scrimmage, McKissic should be an RB2 in PPR formats while Gibson is on the shelf.

Plus, he's not going to face the Pittsburgh Steelers every week, so his efficiency should only increase.

Likely to be working in an increased role against the San Francisco 49ers, McKissic looks like a rock-solid PPR option in Week 14.
