Duke Johnson Fantasy Outlook Rises as a Top Waiver Wire Add in Week 16

Meticulously watching the waiver wire during the fantasy football playoffs can be what guides managers to a championship. There were a number of surprising performances this past week, and running back Duke Johnson of the Miami Dolphins is one of the top players to target after his breakout game.

Duke Johnson Fantasy Outlook

Johnson picked apart the New York Jets defense seemingly every time he got the football and ended up rushing for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries. The NFL journeyman also hauled in a 20-yard reception and played in 58% of the offensive snaps, which led all Miami ball-carriers.

Head coach Brian Flores hinted that Johnson was going to see an expanded role given Myles Gasking and Salvon Ahmed were just recently activated from the COVID-19 list. However, no one could've seen this one coming. Johnson averaged 5.2 carries per game in his career entering Sunday.

It is yet to be seen whether or not Gaskin will return to his starting role this week. No matter what, Johnson is worth an add as he could very well see 10-plus touches next time out. His ability to catch the football should come in handy against a New Orleans Saints' defense that has already given up 547 receiving yards to opposing RBs this season (No. 19 in NFL).

Fantasy managers dealing with injuries to starters or looking to get a leg up on their opponent should target Johnson when making claims this week. He has RB2 upside moving forward.
