After three weeks on the shelf due to a concussion, David Johnson finally returned to action Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts. Although D.J. received a season-low 10 touches and two targets through the air, fantasy managers were rewarded with a short touchdown run.

The average performance and low usage may worry managers heading into the first round of the fantasy football playoffs, especially against a tough Chicago Bears defense in Week 14, but interim head coach Romeo Crennel helped temper any fears.

David Johnson Fantasy Outlook

The Houston Texans were careful with David Johnson in his first game back, but who could really blame them with the season already lost and Johnson's lengthy history of injuries? It makes perfect sense that his snap count would increase as he settles back in after a full week of practice.

The usage should not be a concern for D.J. moving forward, but the opponent does offer some resistance. The Bears defense is ranked ninth versus running backs this season, but they actually rank in the bottom half of the league in rushing yards allowed per game.

Johnson has really made his money in the red zone though. He has at least one touchdown in five out of the nine games he has played this season. That's 55 percent of starts. Being that he left the game after two carries in Week 9, that number is actually more like 62.5 percent.

The Texans early-down rusher is no RB1 at this point in his career, but he has proven that he can still play at a solid RB2 value all year. After this recent news, there's no reason to bench him now unless you're stacked at the position.
