The Chicago Cubs finally broke a 12-game losing streak last night to get back within one game of a .500 record (43-44). However, it may have come at a cost as 2021 All-Star Kris Bryant had to exit the game due to an injury. He is now considered day-to-day moving forward.
Cubs Injury Update
Bryant left early on in the game with what has been diagnosed as hamstring tightness. While the injury does not sound substantial, the Cubs cannot afford to lose any starters right now given their lengthy injury report. The starting third baseman was replaced by rookie Patrick Wisdom.
The seven-year pro has been fantastic for the Cubs this season as he currently leads the team in on-base percentage (.349), doubles (16) and runs scored (50). Overall, Bryant is slashing .268/.349/.498 to go along with 16 home runs, 43 RBI and 4 stolen bases through 79 games played in 2021.
This is a situation to keep an eye on as more details come out about Bryant's status heading into the weekend. The Cubs are fighting to stay in the playoff push and currently sit 7.0 games back of the second National League Wild Card spot.
If the Cubs decide to be sellers at the Trade Deadline, Bryant would be a natural piece to move as he would fetch a huge return. But his injury could potentially scare some teams off if it's deemed to be serious, making this a situation to monitor.
Chicago has odds set at +6000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
