Whit Merrifield Gets Candid About Royals' Struggles
The Kansas City Royals are in a freefall. The team has gone just 2-8 over its last 10 games, and Tuesday night's close loss to the Texas Rangers has brought frustrations up to the surface as this club searches for answers.
Kansas City's offensive struggles are a clear, and All-Star Whit Merrifield offered some candid comments on that issue following the Royals' third straight loss.
Merrifield was honest about his rut, saying he doesn't feel like the breaks have gone his way the plate so far. He also admitted there's "some guys pressing" in the clubhouse as they look to revive their bats, but "all you can do is move forward."
“This is our entire life. … So when it’s not going well, it mounts. And it’s a tough thing to balance when you’re going through something like this. It is what it is at this point, we are where we are, and all you can do is move forward.”- Whit Merrifield
It's crushing to hear Merrifield so dejected about the team's current state. He is, though, still trying to keep the team focused as they look to get through this rough patch. There's not much more you can ask from a longtime veteran.
Following an All-Star selection in 2021, Merrifield has struggled to find that success in the early going. The abysmal .139/.179/.167 he's slashing with a .346 OPS is nowehere near his standards.
The good news is Kansas City can't get much worse at the plate. Hopefully the Royals can find their spark soon and turn things around.
