Tigers Road Sweep Was Long Time Coming

With a 2-1 win on Sunday, the Detroit Tigers capped off a road sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, lifting them to an 8-5 record and second place in the AL Central.

That sweep was particularly sweet for fans in Detroit because of how long it had been since Detroit had managed to sweep an opponent on the road.

Of course, it makes sense that the Tigers would have struggled to sweep any opponent at any ballpark in 2019, when they finished last in the division with just 47 wins.

Offensively, the Tigers are tied for 11th in the majors with a 107 wRC+ and also with their 2.1 WAR. Their pitching staff hasn't followed suit, with a brutal 5.21 group ERA, and their 0.6 WAR is tied for 23rd in the majors.

These three wins didn't just lift the Tigers to three wins above .500. Finally scoring a road sweep after going so long without one is a huge weight off the chest of a squad that will look to continue defying expectations as the shortened 2020 season rolls on.
