One of the biggest storylines to emerge over the first few days of the 2021 MLB season is the incredible start from Los Angeles Angels pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani has gone yard twice in 16 plate appearances, while he also allowed just 1 earned run while striking out five across 4 and 2/3rd innings in his lone start as a pitcher.
Shohei Ohtani MVP Odds
Ohtani has moved up to a tie for third in the American League, with +1400 odds to win the MVP award. He trails only teammate Mike Trout (+220) and Aaron Judge (+1200), while he is tied with Alex Bregman (+1400).
This represents a sizable jump from his +2000 odds before Opening Day, which had him ranked seventh in the AL. He has soared past Matt Chapman, Anthony Rendon and Jose Ramirez.
Ohtani is doing something we've never seen in the modern MLB, and it will be exciting to see how he fares in the AL MVP race all season.
