The Colorado Rockies are struggling so far this MLB season as they currently sit in last place in the National League West division with a record of 15-29. There aren't many bright spots on the team right now, but the Rockies did get good news regarding injured starting pitcher Kyle Freeland.

Kyle Freeland Injury Update

Freeland pitched well in his second rehab start for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes and allowed just one run and two hits in 6.0 innings pitched. He is expected to rejoin the big league squad next week and lines up to start a game against the New York Mets.

The 28-year-old has yet to pitch in the majors this year after he suffered a shoulder injury during spring training. However, Freeland has been a reliable pitcher for the Rockies in the past and will provide a boost on a staff that currently owns the third-worst ERA in all of baseball (5.03).

Freeland had an up-and-down 2020 season in which he ended up posting a 2-3 record to go along with a 4.33 ERA in 70.2 innings pitched (13 starts). However, he did lead the league by inducing 14 double play grounders. The potential is there for him to still grow.

Although the Rockies have a very slim chance to make the playoffs this season, getting a solid starting pitcher back on the team is a step in the right direction for the organization. FanDuel gives the Rockies just +30000 odds to win the NL West.
