Peter King Projects Surprising Mac Jones Draft Scenario

We're still over a month out from the 2021 NFL Draft, but there is already no shortage of intrigue. With at least five high-profile quarterbacks expected to be drafted in the first round, this year's draft class could really shape the future of the league.

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones has long been considered a first-round prospect, but his draft stock seems to be especially high recently.

Continuing that trend, Peter King had a bold prediction for Jones.

King projects Trey Lance to fall further than Mac Jones in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Trey Lance has some real boom-or-bust potential and only played one game in 2020, but the consensus has been that he has the raw tools to become a superstar, and that has him as a potential top-10 pick.

But Jones is clearly the more polished, pro-ready passer, and King thinks that teams will be more inclined to take the safe bet and draft Jones.

Jones and Lance join Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Zach Wilson as passers likely to go in the top half of the first round.

With so many options, teams are going to feel a lot of pressure when they're deciding which one is their potential franchise quarterback. NFL teams are nothing if not risk-averse, so seeing Jones projected over Lance could become a lot more common as the draft nears.
