There's been plenty of recent talk surrounding wide receiver DK Metcalf and a possible contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks. The 24-year-old playmaker made it clear this week that he hopes to remain in Seattle, leaving the ball in management's court.

Seahawks fans can feel a bit more encouraged now that head coach Pete Carroll has provided his own update on the matter. He told 950 KJR AM, a local Seattle radio station, on Thursday that Metcalf and the Seahawks will "figure it out" when it comes to extending the talented pass-catcher.

Carroll also made it clear that not only does Metcalf want to remain in Seattle, but the Seahawks want him there too. The head coach added that the situation will "just take us some time," but that he's confident it'll work out in the end.

The Seahawks appear to be entering a mini rebuild and if Metcalf was older, it'd be easier to walk away from him. However, he's 24 years old and is arguably a top-10 wide receiver already. Figuring a way to keep him is a no-brainer.

It's going to cost a pretty penny to keep Metcalf, but it's well worth it for a wideout who's averaged 72 receptions, over 1,050 receiving yards and nearly 10 touchdowns a season to begin his NFL career.

Fans will have a better feel about the situation once the Seahawks' mandatory minicamp begins on Tuesday, June 7. It doesn't appear as if Metcalf will hold out of the activities, but anything can change over the next month or so.

Nevertheless, it's still going to be an uphill battle for the Seahawks next season even if the Metcalf contract extension goes smoothly. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently favoring them to miss the 2022-23 NFL playoffs at -650 odds.
