The Carolina Panthers feel like they're a quarterback away from being dangerous in the NFC. No offense to Teddy Bridgewater, but he's clearly not this team's long-term solution at the position. But Mel Kiper projects Carolina will find their answer in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Kiper has this team trading up with the Miami Dolphins to select Ohio State QB Justin Fields at No. 3 overall.
He didn't give any specifics on what it would take for Carolina to trade up, but it certainly won't be cheap. Looking at the 2018 NFL Draft is a pretty good comparison point, though. Carolina would have to move up five picks to get to No. 3 overall, and we saw two teams do just that in 2018.
To get from No. 15 to No. 10 (the pick that became Josh Rosen), the Arizona Cardinals gave up No. 15, 79 and 152. And to secure Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills sent No. 12 along with two second-round picks. Because Carolina is trading up into the top five, it's fair to assume the Panthers will have to part with more than either of those two gave up, though.
Still, no price is too high to pay for a legitimate franchise QB. And Fields has all the tools to be one at the next level.
