The Cleveland Indians are still in the playoff race, though it'd take a miracle for them to vault up to first place in the AL Central or sneak into the Wild Card. Everything would have to go right for Cleveland, and even then, their focus is on the future.

Starting pitcher Triston McKenzie is one player who should be a key part of the future. But in the present, he's headed to the injured list.

McKenzie is dealing with right shoulder fatigue and will hit the shelf. While he's going on the 10-day IL, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the promising starter sit for the rest of the year. There's no point in throwing the young right-hander out there and risking an injury in essentially meaningless games.

The 24-year-old has had a prominent role with the Indians in his sophomore campaign. He's started 18 games so far this season, going 3-5 with a 4.83 ERA and recording 107 strikeouts to this point.

Cleveland currently stands 10.0 games back of first place in the AL Central and 9.0 games back of the final Wild Card spot.
