Every team in the NFL already knows which teams they will be facing during the 2022 season, just not the specific dates and start times. That will be revealed at 8 p.m. ET on NFL Network on May 12. The New Orleans Saints also know that their schedule will be one of the the toughest ones in the league.

Both Mike Clay of ESPN and Zach Koons of Sports Illustrated highlighted just how difficult New Orleans' road to a potential playoff berth is going to be. Head coach Dennis Allen is going to have his work cut out for him, so let's take a look at the three hardest matchups the Saints will have in 2022.

New Orleans Saints 2022 Schedule

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Facing an angry Tom Brady is something no NFL team looks forward to. The Buccaneers' quarterback has to be motivated to ball out against the Saints in 2022 considering he has posted a 1-3 record against them over the last two seasons. What was already a heated divisional rivalry has been taken up another notch. Tampa Bay are as balanced as any team in the NFL and ranked among the top 10 in both points per game (29.9) and opponent yards per play (5.2) in 2021. The Saints may be able to sneak out with a win in front of their home crowd, but going to Raymond James Stadium and beating the Bucs is a whole other beast.

2. Los Angeles Rams

Anytime the reigning Super Bowl champions are on the schedule, it is going to be highlighted as a big-time matchup. The Los Angeles Rams will look to join an elite list of back-to-back champs, but will have to beat the Saints in New Orleans if they want to secure a high playoff seed first. Caesars Superdome is going to be rocking as fans have yet to let go the controversial uncalled pass interference during the NFC Championship game three years ago. That cost the Saints a chance at earning the Lombardi Trophy one final time before quarterback Drew Brees retired. It'll be interesting to see if Jameis Winston has the chops to exact revenge.

3. San Francisco 49ers

Most of the Saints' toughest game are going to played at home in 2022. However, they do have to travel across the country to the west coast in order to play the San Francisco 49ers. That is no easy trip to make for a team used to playing in the Eastern time zone. New Orleans has split the last two games against head coach Kyle Shanahan and knows how important this matchup could end up being in playoff tiebreaker situations. Whether they are playing against quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo or Trey Lance, the Saints will look to make a statement against a team that has made the NFC Championship Game in two of the least three seasons.
