The New York Giants were missing the third cog in their wide receiver trio in Week 1, and that cog is veteran slot receiver Golden Tate III. Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard both benefited from Tate's absence, catching six passes a piece (Slayton even surpassed 100 yards with two touchdowns).
Now Tate is expected to return as the Giants are on the road against the Chicago Bears in Week 2.
Darius Slayton & Sterling Shepard Week 2 Fantasy Outlook
Tate is the type of wide receiver that generally assumes a large volume of targets. In 2019, his 5.7 targets per game was actually higher than Slayton's, which was 5.6 targets per game.
There's no question that both Slayton and Shepard should receive fewer looks this week, especially with Saquon Barkley hoping to make more of an impact after his dreadful Week 1. This offensive unit is also fully healthy for the first time under Daniel Jones' tenure as the starter, which should result in shared fantasy points.
Despite the 2019 target totals, this return should affect Shepard more than it does Slayton. Tate and Shepard are the more similarly styled receivers, both thriving in the possession game as well as PPR fantasy formats. Slayton on the other hand is the better big play/touchdown threat.
No matter what the result of the weapons, this is all positive news for quarterback Daniel Jones, who might be set up to have a big week against a Chicago Bears defense that has been on the decline.
