Eloy Jimenez suffered an injury while trying to rob a home run during a Spring Training game. Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn told reporters he is expected to miss the next five-to-six months. This is a brutal blow for the team.
Eloy Jimenez Injury
Jimenez had a breakout season in 2020, finishing with a 140 wRC+ and clubbing 14 home runs in just 55 games. FanGraphs previously ranked Jimenez as high as the No. 8 prospect in the league, and it will be tough to replace his bat in the middle of the lineup.
The only silver lining for White Sox fans is that this injury should ensure that Andrew Vaughn makes the Opening Day roster. The No. 3 overall pick from the 2019 MLB Draft is another highly-regarded prospect, and he’s been impressive in Spring Training.
The White Sox enter the year as one of the favorites this season, and they’re listed at +850 to win the World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
