Xavien Howard is one of the bets cornerbacks in the NFL and a key piece in the Miami Dolphins' secondary. As a team on the rise, having one of its most talented defenders in house was paramount. There was some concern earlier in the offseason when Howard skipped minicamp, but as of Tuesday morning, Howard in back in teal and orange and ready to get to work.
After leading the NFL in interceptions (10) in 2020, Howard is seeking a new deal. Already one of the highest paid corners in the league, Howard believes his recent performance has earned him a raise. Despite not coming to an agreement with the Dolphins on a new deal, Howard elected not to holdout.
The Dolphins secondary will look to improve on its performance from last year when it ranked just 22nd in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (251.5). That would have been a lot more difficult without Howard.
Miami currently holds +3100 odds to win Super Bowl LVI, good for 13th-best in the NFL. Howard himself has +7000 odds to win Defensive Player of the Year, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL futures odds.
