Sterling Shepard is an excellent player when he's on the field. That has been a real problem for the fifth-year wide receiver, though. Shepard only played 10 games last year, and he's already dealing with a toe injury in 2020.

Making matters worse, the New York Giants have elected to place him on IR, which guarantees that he'll miss the next three weeks of action, at least.

This move does improve both Darius Slayton and Golden Tate's fanatsy football outlooks, though.

Darius Slayton Fantasy Football Outlook

Slayton was beginning to establish himself as the No. 1 receiver on the Giants. This move further solidifies that position. His 15 targets are tied with tight end Evan Engram for the team high, but Slayton has been far more productive with those opportunities. He has 135 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns thus far, while Engram has just 8 catches for 74 yards.

With Shepard out, expect even more looks to be headed Slayton's way.

Golden Tate Fantasy Football Outlook

Tate doesn't have the ceiling that Slayton or Engram do on a weekly basis, but he should have a really high floor. He missed Week 1 due to injury, but he posted a solid 5-catch, 47-yard line in Week 2. Tate should serve as Daniel Jones' primary target on shorter, intermediate routes while Shepard is out.

Tate will be a solid low-end WR3 or FLEX option while Shepard is sidelined.

Our Week 3 fantasy football rankings have Slayton at WR32 while Tate checks in at WR36 against a stingy San Francisco 49ers defense.
