The Chicago Cubs' current losing skid was made worse on Tuesday. Catcher Jose Lobaton tripped at first base while trying to avoid a collision with the Milwaukee Brewers' Josh Hader and landed on his right shoulder.
Lobaton's pain was obvious, and his shoulder is going to land on him the injured list for the foreseeable future.
Jose Lobaton Injury Update
Lobaton has been placed on the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder sprain. This is yet another hit to the Cubs' backup catcher corps, as P.J. Higgins and Austin Romine are also on the 60-day IL.
It's unfortunate that a freak play at the end of the game will end up costing Lobaton significant time. He last appeared in the majors in 2018 before getting a chance to back up Willson Contreras earlier this month.
Lobaton's run at backup lasted just six games. He'll be succeeded by Taylor Gushue, who was called up from Triple-A. Thankfully other reinforcements are on the way for Chicago as they look to make up ground in the NL Central race.
