After signing him to a franchise tag last offseason, it sounds like the Pittsburgh Steelers aren't going to be able to get a deal done with edge rusher Bud Dupree.
Dupree is coming off a serious injury, but he's still going to be one of the top free-agent pass-rushers on the market, and no shortage of teams will be interested in acquiring his services.
With that in mind, here are the three most likely landing spots for Dupree.
Bud Dupree Free Agency
1. Las Vegas Raiders
Entering the offseason with top-10 cap space, the Las Vegas Raiders need to make a splash (or two, or three) on the defensive side of the ball. Bud Dupree won't erase fans' memories of Khalil Mack, but he would certainly upgrade an area of need. The Raiders ranked just 27th in Pro Football Focus' pass rush grade in 2020, and Dupree had more sacks in just 11 games last year (8.0) than any Raiders player did.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
One of the few teams with more cap space and one of the few teams with a lower pass rush grade in 2020 than the Raiders, the Jacksonville Jaguars absolutely need to upgrade their pass rush if they want to become a competitive team. It still may be a multi-year process to get back to the postseason, but the 28-year-old Dupree is a player who can be a long-term contributor.
3. Cincinnati Bengals
Much of what you just read about the Jaguars applies to the Bengals. With Joe Burrow returning, this is a team that wants to make a postseason push. They project to rank No. 4 in the NFL in cap space, and they ranked No. 31 in pass rush grade in 2020. The Steelers might not love seeing Dupree stay within the division, but a chance to get paid big with a promising young team could be hard for him to turn down.
