Broncos Projected for Shocking Quarterback Trade in Latest Pro Football Focus Mock Draft

There have already been two major trades in the 2021 NFL Draft, but Pro Football Focus doesn't expect the moves to end there. In its latest mock draft, PFF has the Denver Broncos making a trade to move up from No. 9 overall to No. 4 overall in order to select a top quarterback.

The Broncos are projected to take a true wild card prospect in North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance after trading up to No. 4 overall. This is a shocking move given a lot of people expect him to be available by the time Denver is on the clock with their original pick. However, the Broncos may not want to take that risk.

Lance may not have as much national recognition as the other top prospects, but he certainly excelled at the college level. He played in 19 games with the Bison and threw for 2,947 yards, 30 touchdowns and just 1 interception. Plus, Lance added 1,325 yards on the ground and 18 rushing touchdowns.

The Broncos have been surrounded by quarterback rumors throughout the offseason so far. It doesn't seem like the team is completely confident in starter Drew Lock and may look to have a surefire back option ready to go. Trading up for Lance would be one way to ensure they do.

The NFL Draft has never had a quarterback selected with each of the first four picks, but that is definitely possible if a move like this would to be made. We'll see if new General Manager George Paton has some moves up his sleeve during his first draft with Denver.
