49ers news: Fred Warner Signs Massive Five-Year Extension in San Francisco

Linebacker Fred Warner may have only been a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he has been nothing short of dominant over the last three seasons. His hard work has finally paid off as the 24-year-old signed a massive five-year contract extension to stay with the San Francisco 49ers.
The #49ers and LB Fred Warner have reached agreement on a five-year extension worth more than $95 million with $40.5 million in guarantees, source says. The first-team All Pro is now the highest-paid inside linebacker in the NFL.

Warner was entering the final year of his rookie deal, so it makes sense for the 49ers to lock down the All-Pro defensive player before his price got any higher. His new $19-million average annual salary makes him the highest paid inside linebacker in the league and ties him to the team through the 2026 season.
The 49ers' defense is constantly highlighted by the playmaking of Warner over the middle of the field. The Pro Bowler broke out in 2020 racking up 125 tackles and 1.0 sack during his 16 games played. He also posted 2 interceptions, broke up 6 passes and forced 1 fumble as well.
However, Warner's consistency may be his best asset as the fourth-year pro has yet to miss a single game due to injury. He was also ProFootballFocus' highest-graded linebacker in coverage last season, allowing just a 69.7 passer rating when targeted.
San Francisco has proven that the front office is not afraid to commit to its core players in order to benefit the team. Defensive tackle Arik Armstead, tight end George Kittle and offensive tackle Trent Williams have all received new contracts as well since the end of the 2019 season.
The 49ers head into the fall with high hopes and currently have the fourth-best odds to win the Super Bowl at +1300, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
