The New York Jets' search for a new head coach to replace Adam Gase may be nearing an end.
With a ton of top head coaching candidates available, the Jets appear to be zeroing in on one of the most exciting names on the list.
Robert Saleh New York Jets
FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL futures odds now have San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as an overwhelming -550 favorite to be the New York Jets' next head coach.
In fact, reports are that the Jets want to get Saleh signed on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old Saleh has been the 49ers' DC for the last four seasons. The year before he arrived, San Fran's defense gave up both the most points and the most yards in the NFL.
They jumped from 32nd to 24th in yards and 25th in points in his first season, and by 2019 they were top-10 in both measures.
That kind of defensive-minded approach should also give Jets fans flashbacks to the last time a top defensive coordinator took over head coaching duties. In 2009 and 2010 they made back-to-back AFC Championship appearances with a Rex Ryan-led defense that finished top-10 in both points and yards in each season.
