After an up-and-down start to the 2021 MLB season, it seemed like the Cincinnati Reds were making a push for a playoff spot not too long ago. However, they've lost their last five games in a row and are 4.0 games back of the final National League wild-card spot and NL Central lead. Fortunately, the Reds got some good news on Tuesday that could help push them in the right direction.

Reds right-handed reliever Tejay Antone hasn't pitched since June 6 after being placed on the 10-day injured list with forearm tightness. However, after a couple of successful bullpen sessions, Cincinnati activated the 27-year-old sophomore off of the IL on Tuesday.

Tejay Antone Injury Update

Antone has appeared in 20 games for the Reds so far this season, pitching to a 1-0 record and an impressive 1.41 ERA while recording 3 saves. If that wasn't enough, he's also allowed two fewer home runs and five fewer walks in 3.1 fewer innings compared to last season (2 HR and 11 BB in 2021 vs 4 HR and 16 BB in 2020).

The Reds could certainly use that type of pitching back in their bullpen. Cincinnati currently has a team ERA of 4.78, which ranks 24th in the MLB. That's not even to mention the club's 1.28 home runs allowed per nine innings pitched (T-21st). Assuming Antone is pitching to form upon his return, he could certainly help lower those numbers.

Even if Antone pitches lights out on the mound, the Reds' odds to win the NL Central are less than favorable at +650 (4th), according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Cincinnati is also in the bottom half of the league when it comes to World Series odds as it currently sit at +6500 (T-18th).
