The AL East division race is looking like a fierce battle leading up the final months of the 2021 MLB season. For the Tampa Bay Rays, they'd love to repeat as division champs and look towards another World Series run in October.
Part of getting there involves staying as healthy as possible down the stretch. That's why the latest Mike Zunino injury update is great news for Tampa Bay.
Mike Zunino Injury Update
Shortly after being named to his first-ever All-Star Game, Zunino kicked off the second-half of the MLB season with some tough injury news. On Monday, the 30-year-old catcher saw an early exit due to tightness in his left hip flexor. He didn't play on Tuesday, which raised concerns in Tampa Bay, but looks like he'll return to Wednesday's lineup in the series finale with the Baltimore Orioles.
Zunino has been mashing baseballs this season. Although he's hitting for just a .196 batting average, the veteran catcher is slugging .521 thanks to 19 home runs and 38 RBIs. His 19 home runs ranks second on the Rays behind only Brandon Lowe.
The Rays own a 56-39 overall record and trail just 1.0 games back of the Boston Red Sox in the AL East. Tampa Bay sits with just +140 odds to win the division compared to the Red Sox's -110 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Regardless, this division race is very much alive in Tampa Bay.
