Mets Trade Rumors: New York Linked to Josh Donaldson Deal with Twins

As the MLB calendar turns to July, that means two things. It's officially All-Star Game season and the trade deadline is bound to heat up. Trade rumors are beginning to swirl across all baseball circles, including the New York Mets.
Recently, SNY's Andy Martino reported the latest Mets trade rumors involving former MVP third baseman Josh Donaldson. According to Martino's report, New York has had very early discussions with the Minnesota Twins about a potential deal involving Donaldson.

Mets Trade Rumors
It should be noted, these talks are very early and preliminary, but it's a promising sign for Mets fans. New York owns a slim lead in the NL East standings with their 41-36 overall record. If it were up to just the pitching staff, this team would likely have a much bigger lead in the standings. New York's rotation owns the fourth-best ERA in baseball with their 3.33 mark.
On the other hand, partly thanks to a bevy of injuries, the Mets have struggled mightily at the plate. New York ranks dead last in the MLB in scoring with just 275 runs this season. Donaldson would be an immediate upgrade to the lineup, especially with Jonathan Villar sidelined on the 10-day injured list.
Donaldson is slashing .250/.345/.486 in 2021 with 13 home runs and 34 RBIs. His .486 slugging percentage ranks above every other member of the Mets' starting nine. First baseman Pete Alonso currently leads the team in slugging .464 mark.
It's definitely worth keeping an eye on these potential trade rumors. Right now, New York owns the second-best odds (+900) across NL teams to take home the World Series title on FanDuel Sportsbook.
