Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in familiar territory once again. Prescott could be signed to a long-term deal, although the two parties couldn't come to an agreement last offseason, which led to the QB playing under the franchise tag.
Current Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins played under the franchise tag twice, and he has some advice for Prescott if things end up there again.
Dak Prescott Contract Negotiations
Cousins pointed out to Prescott that the franchise tag "can be your friend," rather than just a hindrance. Playing under the tag twice with the Washington Football Team allowed Cousins to leave as a free agent in 2018 and sign a big-money deal with the Vikings.
Now, Prescott could find himself in a similar spot. If he and the Cowboys don't come to terms on a new contract, the team could place him under the tag again. It wouldn't rule out a possible extension to keep him in Dallas past 2022, but it'd also open the door for another team to scoop him up as a free agent.
Cousins is one of a few who have weighed in on Prescott's contract negotiations, and his situation with the Cowboys will be something that people across the league continue to watch this offseason.
