The New England Patriots invested a ton this offseason to upgrade their tight end corps by signing both Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith in free agency. Henry has already given the team an injury scare, and it appears Smith is one to worry about now.

Smith got tangled up in a 1-on-1 drill at practice on Sunday and walked off of the field barefoot.

This certainly isn't encouraging news for the Pats' new tight end. It appears Smith possibly injured his left foot/ankle, which could be a troublesome ailment to deal with, especially with the regular season approaching.

Smith is coming off of a career year with the Tennessee Titans in 2020. He racked up 41 receptions, 448 yards and 8 TDs last season, marking his career bests across the board. His arrival alongside Henry is supposed to elevate New England's' previously barren receiving corps.

Pats fans will anxiously await any updates on Smith's status. Hopefully it's only a ding that will recover quickly before Week 1.

New England owns +126 odds to make the playoffs this year, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
