Updated (Friday, Nov. 5, 3:15 p.m. EST): Saquon Barkley was officially ruled out (ankle) for Sunday's Week 9 contest against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Earlier this week, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was placed in COVID-19 protocol after testing positive for the virus. However, the Giants received great news on Friday because it turns out that the result was a false positive, according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Saquon Barkley Injury Update

While it's great news that Barkley is COVID-free, he's still recovering from an ankle injury that's sidelined him for nearly a month. Nevertheless, the fact that he's practicing again should provide optimism when it comes to his Week 9 status.

After a slow start to the year, Barkley was looking good in his most recent action. He recorded a combined 220 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in Weeks 3 and 4 before getting hurt in his fifth game.

If Barkley can't return for Week 9 to face the Las Vegas Raiders, Devontae Booker will start in the backfield once again. He's rushed the ball 57 times for 194 yards and a pair of touchdowns since Barkley went down, adding an additional 14 receptions for 124 yards and another score.

FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing the Giants as 3.5-point home underdogs against the Raiders. If Barkley can play, the game could be much closer.
