Dak Prescott is one of the most exciting quarterbacks in the league right now, and he's headed for free agency this summer. The Dallas Cowboys should be jumping at the chance to sign Prescott to a contract extension, giving him a well-earned payday and locking in their franchise QB.
It's an opportunity for Prescott to finally get the big, long-term money he deserves, but former Pro Bowler Carson Palmer has some advice for the current Cowboys QB that doesn't involve maxing out his next contract.
Palmer believes that Prescott should leave money on the table in a contract extension with Dallas, which is a questionable thing to say to a franchise QB. However, Palmer's reasoning behind this isn't too far-fetched.
If Prescott makes less on his next deal, that leaves more money for the Cowboys to address areas of need, filling out the roster as best as possible around their star quarterback.
Now, there's no telling if Prescott is on board with the idea. Coming off of a major ankle injury, he could be focused (rightly so) on securing as much money as possible, making sure his talent is reflected in his annual salary.
Willingly giving up money isn't something usually recommended to top athletes, but it has some benefits, and there's a few things as priceless as being a Super Bowl champion.
