Four-time NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins and the Houston Rockets have mutually agreed to part ways after 25 games. Cousins' release will allow him to sign with a contender and bolster a team's depth down the stretch of the season.

With that in mind, here are three likely landing spots for the former All-NBA center.

DeMarcus Cousins Landing Spots

3. Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers are facing a need at backup center, with Jusuf Nurkic, Zach Collins and Harry Giles all sidelined. Those three big men have struggled with injuries throughout their careers, and signing Cousins would give the Blazers much-needed depth, since they're an Enes Kanter injury away from having no true bigs at all. Currently fifth in the Western Conference despite their injury troubles, this would strengthen Portland's roster around Damian Lillard as they hope to secure a top-four seed in the playoffs.

2. Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are on the hunt for frontcourt depth after trading Jarrett Allen away. While Cousins isn't taking on starter-level minutes (20.2 per night) in his first season back from an ACL tear, he has adjusted seamlessly as a role player, still finding ways to make an impact with 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Without the assets to make an Andre Drummond trade, a Boogie signing would still help the current No. 2 seed in the East.

1. Los Angeles Lakers

It seems as though a reunion between the Los Angeles Lakers and Cousins is likely, with there already being reported interest by the Lakers in bringing the big man back. Cousins signed with L.A. before the 2019-20 season, but tore his ACL in offseason workouts, preventing him from suiting up alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. His release by Houston gives him a chance to return, especially with Davis currently nursing an Achilles injury that's expected to keep him out for an extended period of time. Cousins would give the Lakers another veteran weapon off of the bench as they look to defend their title, and the big man should be intrigued by a chance to play a role on an expected Finals team.
