Tampa Bay Buccaneers' stud tight end Rob Gronkowski went down with a ribs injury in Week 3 that cost him to completely miss Weeks 4-7. Gronk came back in Week 8, but played just 10% of the offensive snaps.
With Gronk continuing to struggle from this ribs injury, the Buccaneers have opted to sign veteran tight end Darren Fells to the practice squad.
Buccaneers Darren Fells
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Tampa Bay is hopeful to activate Fells to the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's Week 10 matchup with the Washington Football Team.
O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate have split time starting at tight end in Gronkowski's absence. Neither has played more than 65% of the offensive snaps in any game during that span and have combined for just 26 receptions.
Fells, an eight-year NFL veteran, was cut by the Detroit Lions earlier this week. Fells caught 4-of-5 targets this season for 43 yards and has earned at least 14 starts in two of his eight NFL seasons.
