Denver Broncos fans were left wondering throughout the offseason whether or not fourth-year defensive end Bradley Chubb would be ready for the start of the 2021 NFL season. Fortunately, Chubb has seen significant progress over the past couple of weeks and it looks like he won't be missing any time at all.
Broncos head coach Vic Fangio told reporters on Sunday that Chubb will suit up for Denver's Week 1 matchup against the New York Giants. Fangio added that the 25-year-old has made significant progress over "the last seven to 10 days," which led to Sunday's announcement.
Bradley Chubb Injury Update
Chubb didn't see any action early in the offseason after undergoing ankle surgery back in May. He returned to practice in the first week of August, but his limited action in preseason games left fans wondering just how far away he was from 100% health. Hearing that he's ready for the start of the 2021 regular season should provide those fans with a lot of optimism, especially as he's projected to be a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
Chubb enters the upcoming campaign after a solid showing in 2020. He started in each of the 14 games that he played in, finishing the year with 42 total tackles, 7.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He also posted a 70.7 overall grade on Pro Football Focus, which is a significant increase over the 59.4 he had in 2019. If Chubb can continue progressing at that rate this season, it won't be long before he cements himself as one of the NFL's best defenders.
The Broncos will need Chubb to be at his best in 2021 if they hope to go on a championship run. Denver currently has +4100 odds to win Super Bowl 56, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which ranks 18th-best across the league.
