Alvin Kamara Fantasy Outlook Rises Following Encouraging Injury Update

Alvin Kamara is one of the top running backs in both fantasy and real-life football. Still, his 2019 season was a bit of a disappointment to anyone who drafted him at his average draft position (RB3, per FantasyPros), as Kamara finished as the RB9 in PPR leagues.
Injuries played a big part in that decline, but it appears he's finally healthy heading into 2020. That should make him a top-tier RB once again – especially in PPR leagues.
#Saints RB Alvin Kamara told reporters that he suffered a knee injury last season in Week 6 and had to deal with it the whole year. "I tore up my knee basically," Kamara said. The injury didn't require offseason surgery, just a lot of rehab. He says he's fully healthy now.

Alvin Kamara Fantasy Football Value
Currently carrying an ADP of RB4, Kamara should have no problem living up to or exceeding that draft cost, provided he stays healthy.
For one, he was actually fantasy's RB6 over the first five weeks of the season before injuries got in the way. During that span he turned 15.0 carries and 6.2 targets (21.2 opportunities) into 116.6 yards from scrimmage per game. In his subsequent nine contests those averages fell to 18.0 opportunities for 83.0 yards from scrimmage per game.
Simply put, not only did Kamara hurt fantasy owners by missing time, he wasn't at his physical peak once he came back. That caused his efficiency to dip, as he was the RB9 on a per-game basis during that span.
Saints RB Alvin Kamara said his contract is not a focus and never has been a big focus for him, even though he’s heading into the final year of his deal. Said he told his agent not to even mention any contract talks to him unless anything gets serious. Focus is on the season.

Kamara appears to be in fantastic shape heading into the season, and there's no reason to think these injuries will flare up again. He's safe to view as a bonafide top-five RB.
We have Kamara ranked as the RB5 in our 2020 fantasy football rankings.
