Alvin Kamara is one of the most electric offensive weapons in the league. Yet as a former third-round pick, he only carries a cap hit of $2.3 million for the 2020 season. While that's obviously an incredible value for the New Orleans Saints, it appears as if the star running back is unhappy with his deal.
Alvin Kamara Holdout
Kamara has had three unexcused absences from Saints' training camp in the past three days. Set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2021, the absence reportedly looks to be related to him seeking a new deal.
Alvin Kamara Fantasy Football Outlook
With a little under two weeks until the Saints take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1, this is obviously a huge blow to Kamara's fantasy outlook.
Prior to the news he was locked in as a no-doubt RB1, coming off the board with an average draft position (ADP) of RB4, per FantasyPros. Until we get some more clarity on the situation he'll be an extremely risky player to spend a first-round pick on. Fantasy managers that have already drafted the versatile back have to be sweating right now.
Until there's a concrete update on Kamara's status it'll be almost impossible to know how to handle this situation. Fantasy managers will need to monitor this situation closely as it develops, but he's certainly no longer a top-five lock while the threat of a potential holdout lingers. It's not a guarantee he misses any regular season games, but the looming potential is certainly there.
If Kamara does hold out, Latavius Murray's fantasy outlook would get a huge boost.
