After losing 31-17 to the Arizona Cardinals over the weekend, the San Francisco 49ers were the recipients of bad news Monday afternoon. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, 49ers right tackle Mike McGlinchey will be out for the rest of the season with a torn quad.

McGlinchey's injury occurred in the first half of San Francisco's Week 9 loss. The former first-round draft pick exited the game and did not return.

Mike McGlinchey Injury Update

McGlinchey has been solid for San Francisco ever since the organization drafted him ninth overall in 2018. He's started in each of his 52 games played, playing at least 99% of offensive snaps until the last game.

When it comes to the 2021 NFL season, McGlinchey played 466 offensive snaps, taking four penalties while allowing two sacks. ProFootballFocus gave him a 70.4 overall grade for his efforts, which shows that his presence will be missed.

Ninth-year pro Tom Compton will likely take McGlinchey's place after replacing him Sunday. He finished the game by allowing a sack on his first 41 offensive snaps of the year. Considering that he's started just 37 games in nine years, it'll be interesting to see how Compton performs in the second half of the season.

Next for the 49ers is a Monday Night Football date with the Los Angeles Rams in Week 10. San Francisco is currently the 4.5-point home underdog, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
