It's really starting to look like a divorce between the Houston Texans and superstar quarterback Deshaun Watson is inevitable. The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins have often been floated as the most logical trade partners for the Texans, as both organizations have a war chest of assets and could stand to upgrade at QB.
However, there could be a surprising new suitor emerging in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, as the Carolina Panthers could be sneaky contenders to land the QB.
From Carolina's perspective, this move obviously makes a lot of sense. The Panthers have a talented, young roster that feels like it's just a real QB away from being dangerous. Watson certainly fits the bill in that regard.
And while the Panthers can't quite compete with the Jets or Dolphins in terms of trade assets, Carolina can put together a pretty decent package that centers around the No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and a horde of future selections.
Still, unless Houston is dead set on moving Watson out of the AFC, Miami and New York should be able to trump any offer Carolina makes with relative ease.
But with the way the Texans front office is looking right now, don't rule anything out.
