When the Los Angeles Dodgers made a blockbuster trade to acquire Mookie Betts from the Boston Red Sox, there was only one thing putting a damper on fans' excitement — his contract was set to expire at the end of the 2020 MLB season.

Well, now Dodgers fans can rest easy, because Betts is reportedly on the verge of signing a contract that will keep him in L.A. for a long time.

In the summer of massive sports contracts, Betts joins Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the latest sports star with some serious long-term job security.

If Betts' contract does indeed push close to $400 million, he could even end up making more than Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout, who inked a 12-year, $426.5 million deal extension last spring.

New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole currently highest the highest annual average salary ($36 million), so the Dodgers appear set to pay Betts like he's the most valuable player in the majors.

That kind of deal is well-earned for Betts, who has averaged 29.0 home runs, 93.8 RBI, 121.8 runs and 24.5 stolen bases per season while slashing .305/.382/.535 over the last four seasons.
