The Cincinnati Reds are off to a 13-15 start to the 2021 MLB season, and they received some bad news when first baseman Joey Votto had to leave Wednesday's game due to an injury. He was hit on his left hand by a pitch thrown by Chicago White Sox starter Dallas Keuchel in the fourth inning.

Joey Votto Injury Update

It's certainly too early to tell the extent of Votto's injury, but the fact that he toughed it out for two more innings doesn't make it seem very severe. The best case scenario is that is is merely a bruise and he can return to the lineup within a few days or so. He'll likely get some X-rays in the coming days, and those should be pretty telling.

Votto has enjoyed a solid season so far, racking up 9 runs scored, 5 home runs and 17 RBI in 28 games played. He is slashing .229/302/.429, which is a bit of a drop-off from what he did over the past two seasons.

The Reds need Votto to stay healthy if they want a have a chance at making the playoffs this year. Hopefully, there will be some good news released about him in the coming days and he can get back to being the veteran hitter Cincinnati fans have come to root for.
