Running back Joe Mixon is coming off an injury-riddled 2020 season, but he started off the year with a bang. The Cincinnati Bengals' starter posted 150 yards from scrimmage to go along with a touchdown in the team's dramatic overtime win against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.
More importantly, Mixon's workhorse volume has solidified his fantasy outlook as a borderline top-10 RB.
Joe Mixon Fantasy Outlook
Mixon was all over the field on Sunday afternoon and seemingly touched the ball on every other play. Overall, the 25-year-old saw a whopping 29 carries and 4 targets. His 33 total opportunities was well above that of his backup Samaje Perine (6). It's no secret that Mixon is the go-to option on this offense.
It's notable to point out that Mixon did not see more than 25 carries in any of his five games played in 2020. Simply put, Mixon looks healthy and ready to contribute in a big way. The departure of veteran pass-catching back Giovani Bernard has allowed Mixon to get involved in the passing game, too.
Mixon has been stuck in a mediocre Bengals offense for the last few seasons, but things are turning around under quarterback Joe Burrow. If Mixon continues to see 20-plus carries a game, he has an opportunity to shock the fantasy football world by finishing amongst the top-five at his position.
It would be smart to target Mixon in a trade before his value jumps even higher. For now, he heads into a Week 2 matchup against the Chicago Bears as a must-start player in fantasy football leagues.
