It was no surprise when the Chicago Bears placed the franchise tag on star wideout Allen Robinson this offseason as the two side were clearly far apart on a long-term deal. Now they have until July 15 to try and work out an extension that keeps the 27-year-old in Chicago.
Robinson was asked about receiving the tag this offseason, and his response was pure class.
Allen Robinson Franchise Tag
Robinson clearly holds no ill will against the Bears. If anything, he's motivated to have another standout year and continue to be a leader for this team.
"I'm not too focused on anything else other than putting myself in the best position to have a successful year and do what I need to do for this offense and for my teammates."- Allen Robinson
The receiver also said there's some accomplishments he wants to check off this season and is excited to be part of another playoff push. While contract negotiations for top players can become messy, Robinson's attitude provides optimism that a deal can be worked out.
He's coming off of a stellar 2020 campaign in which he grabbed a career high 102 receptions for 1,250 yards and 6 TDs. Chicago should do everything they can to retain their top wideout.
