Heading into the 2021 season, AJ Dillon will now operate as the clear-cut No. 2 running back for the Green Bay Packers. He's still behind Aaron Jones, who finished as a top-five fantasy back last year, but with Jamaal Williams departing, the second-year back showcases huge handcuff potential.

Dillon checks in as RB39 on FantasyPros' preseason average draft position (ADP) data for PPR formats.

AJ Dillon Fantasy Value

While Dillon now holds a more solidified role in Green Bay's backfield, there's some important distinctions to make. For one, Dillon is not the type of pass-catcher that Williams was. That works one of two ways. Jones will see a lot more targets than his 63 last year. For the Packers, they will either lean much more heavily on Jones or utilize Dillon more in the traditional running game.

Williams saw 119 rushing attempts in 2020 compared to Jones' 209 last season. However, Williams did record 35 targets. If Jones is expected to absorb those targets, then one would assume he'll need a break from his team-leading 200+ rush attempts.

Even if the Packers do kick off the year with Jones carrying a much heavier role in both rushing attempts and targets, that majorly ups his injury potential. In a late-round situation, it would be advisable for Jones' fantasy managers to stash Dillon on the bench.

Dillon was quite successful in his limited role during his rookie campaign. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry on just 46 rushes, while notching two touchdowns. He'd be worth the handcuff play, especially if Jones suffers any troubles with injuries this season.

AJ Dillon ADP

In just his second year, Dillon checks in as RB46 on The Duel's preseason fantasy football rankings.
