There haven't been a lot of bright spots for the Arizona Diamondbacks and their fans during the 2021 MLB season. The Diamondbacks sit at the bottom of the league with a 22-58 record and probably should start looking forward to next season considering how they're 25.0 games back of the final National League Wild Card spot. However, in a campaign filled with negativity, Arizona actually got some good news regarding a certain injury update on Monday.

After undergoing hamstring surgery in April, Diamondbacks right fielder Kole Calhoun began his rehab assignment on Monday. The news gets even better as the 33-year-old veteran actually had an impressive showing in his first game with Triple-A Reno.

Kole Calhoun Injury Update

Calhoun registered 3 at-bats in his first game with the Reno Aces on Monday, ending the night with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. The Diamondbacks should love the fact that the former Gold Glove winner certainly didn't look like he'd been out of action for two months.

As the Diamondbacks continue being basement-dwellers, they could be sellers ahead of the July 30 MLB trade deadline. With Calhoun being in the final year of his two-year, $16 million contract, he could end up being one of the pieces traded next month. Yes, he does have a club option for the 2022 season, but there's no guarantee that the Diamondbacks will want to keep him around, especially as he approaches his mid-30s.

Until then, Calhoun and the Diamondbacks should remain focused on his recovery as they figure out when he'll be ready to return to the show.
