The Dallas Cowboys have high hopes heading into the 2021 NFL season with the return of starting quarterback Dak Prescott. However, it isn't all good news as starting wide receiver Amari Cooper may have to miss the start of training camp due to a lingering ankle injury.

Amari Cooper Injury Update

Although it is not considered a major injury, ankle irritations can be hard for receivers to work through given the regularity of sharp cuts and breaks in their routes. Cooper is reportedly having trouble running right now and he may need to rest for a few weeks in order to get everything under control.

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy addressed the topic in a news conference Wednesday saying Cooper is going to be held out for the rest of minicamp in hopes he'll be ready to go by late July. There seems to be no reason for concern about Cooper not being out on the field Week 1.

Cooper's absence would be a substantial loss for the Cowboys' offense as he has been nothing but dominant in his two and a half seasons with the team. In fact, the 26-year-old playmaker has racked up 3,028 yards on 224 catches and scored 19 touchdowns in 41 games played in Dallas.

The Cowboys are fortunate to have a deep wide receiving core with the likes of Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb lining up alongside Cooper. They will hope to get him back quickly and head into the fall with odds currently set at +110 to win the NFC East division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
