After months of a deadlock between Clemson Tigers' QB Trevor Lawrence and Alabama Crimson Tide QB Tua Tagovailoa's atop the 2019 Heisman Trophy odds, we finally have our first major shift for the top choice to take home this season's award.
Unfortunately for Tagovailoa, Lawrence's latest odds to win the 2019 Heisman have surged past the Alabama standout, making the Tigers' star sophomore the first stand-alone betting favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Lawrence and Tagovailoa opened tied for the best odds to win the 2019 Heisman, at +250, back in late January, but the Clemson QB now sits at +200 with Tua at +350.
However, the pair are still odds-on favorites to win the award over the rest of the field.
Less than a month ago, former Alabama QB and current Oklahoma Sooners' graduate transfer Jalen Hurts was sitting firmly with the third-best odds to win the 2019 Heisman Trophy at +1100. Yet, Hurts' odds have now plummeted to +2000, tied with Georgia Bulldogs' QB Jake Fromm, Nebraska Cornhuskers' QB Adrian Martinez, Oregon Ducks' QB Justin Herbert and Texas Longhorns' QB Sam Ehlinger for the fourth-best odds to win the award.
As for each of the powerhouse programs each star QB leads, Lawrence's Tigers (+170) are also noticeable favorites over Tagovailoa's Crimson Tide (+275) in the updated odds to win the 2020 College Football Playoff Championship.
Even though we're still more than a month away from the beginning of the 2019-20 College Football season, it's never too early to start talking about arguably the best college football players in the country. Especially if we're debating which of college football's two biggest stars has the upper hand in winning this season's Heisman Trophy.
