Sam Darnold Injury Update Boosts P.J. Walker Fantasy Outlook in Week 10
After finally getting Christian McCaffrey back in the lineup, the Carolina Panthers received some bad injury news around QB Sam Darnold and it has big fantasy football implications.
Sam Darnold Injury Update
Carolina revealed Darnold suffered a non-displaced scapula fracture and will miss several weeks of action.
P.J. Walker Fantasy Outlook
P.J. Walker is immediately thrust into the Panthers' starting lineup and fantasy managers are wondering if he's worth a waiver wire addition.
The short answer is no, for the time being.
Carolina travels to take on a feisty Arizona Cardinals secondary that ranks second in Football Outsiders' pass defense DVOA metric in Week 10. Arizona also allows the fourth-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Fantasy managers may want to consider Walker's value in deeper two-QB leagues or in the weeks ahead. There isn't much tape on Walker, save for one official start back in 2020. He ended that start by completing 24-of-34 passes for 258 yards and 1 TD to 2 INTs. That stat line equated to QB20 numbers and again, offers value in two-QB leagues.
The one question surrounding Walker's performance over the next few weeks is the presence of McCaffrey. McCaffrey and Darnold got off to a terrific start that saw Darnold as a top-12 QB option through Week 3.
Keep an eye out for Walker this week and think about a prospective add for the coming weeks.
