It didn't take long for Alvin Kamara to establish himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL after being a third-round pick in 2017. In three pro seasons, he's racked up 2,408 yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground, as well as 2,068 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air. The three-time Pro Bowler has been a crucial part of the New Orleans Saints offense.

Despite that, Kamara may not be in for the kind of massive contract one might expect next offseason. There's no denying his talent, but he's set to become an unrestricted free agent with poor timing, as the free-agent market is going to be absolutely stacked next offseason.

Kamara is far form the only top back set to hit the open market, and he'll be competing with the likes of Dalvin Cook, Derrick Henry, Aaron Jones and Joe Mixon. Even if a couple of the backs listed above re-sign with their current teams, teams are going to have a ton of options to sign, taking some leverage away from the players.

Making things even trickier for a guy like Kamara, the incoming rookie RB class is also set to be absolutely loaded. This may influence teams to try to save money by gambling on a high-upside rookie, rather than spending big on an established veteran.

Of course, this bad news for Kamara could be good news for the Saints. They might be able to get a long-term contract extension done at a bit of a bargain.
