It's never a good idea when an NFL team upsets its starting quarterback with draft decisions. Just look at what happened with Aaron Rodgers when the Green Bay Packers surprised him by selecting his potential successor in Jordan Love at the 2020 NFL Draft.
History has now repeated itself, but it's the Tennessee Titans that are in the Packers' position. Starting QB Ryan Tannehill revealed on Tuesday that he had no idea that the Titans' were going to draft Liberty's Malik Willis at last week's 2022 NFL Draft.

Although Tannehill had no idea Willis was being drafted by the Titans, the veteran gunslinger did what any other good leader would do: called the rookie to congratulate him on his accomplishment. However, the 33-year-old did add that it isn't his responsibility to mentor Willis.
"I don't think it's my job to mentor Malik Willis, but if he learns from me, that's a good thing."- Ryan Tannehill
Tannehill has done well over the last three seasons as Tennessee's starter, going 30-13 over that stretch while completing 873 passes for 10,295 passing yards and 76 touchdowns to 27 interceptions.
One of the major knocks against Tannehill is that he's only won two playoff games for the Titans, which both came in 2019. He'll also be 34 years old once the next campaign starts and chances are we've already seen the best that he has to offer.
Willis is still a project and likely isn't a threat to Tannehill's starting role this season. However, the Titans can save $17.8 million by cutting the latter in 2023, so it'll be interesting to see what the quarterback situation looks like a year from now.
At the end of the day, Tannehill gives the Titans the best chance to capitalize on their Super Bowl LVII odds. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing them at +3000 (No. 15) to go on a championship run next season.
