You can't blame New York Jets fans for being excited about Zach Wilson. The No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft was one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football during his tenure with the BYU Cougars. Considering how tumultuous things have been in New York over the last several seasons, it's safe to say that the fans deserve this victory.

Former Jets wide receiver Wayne Chrebet is even on the Wilson hype train. While speaking on the premiere episode of "The Underdog Jets Podcast" on Thursday, Chrebet had nothing but heaps of praise for Wilson, going as far as calling him "special." Taking into account that the former wideout spent his entire 11-year career with the Jets, his opinion definitely means a lot.

Chrebet went on to say that the Jets made the right call to let go of Sam Darnold and move on to Wilson, especially with a new coaching staff and management in town.

"He’s their quarterback. He’s this regime’s guy. Sam [Darnold] wasn’t their guy. They’re gonna live and die with [Wilson]."

The fact of that matter is that Wilson is special. He suited up in 30 games over three seasons for BYU, completing 67.6% of his passes for 7,652 passing yards and 56 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. He's not a one-trick pony, though. The 21-year-old signal-caller has a decent run game, having rushed for 642 yards and 15 TDs on 212 attempts. It'll be interesting to see how he can translate those skills to NFL success, but if anyone's capable of doing that, it's him.

Wilson is one of the favorites to win this season's NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. His +700 odds rank him as having the 3rd-best shot, only trailing behind fellow quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence (+270) and Justin Fields (+500). Even if he isn't the clear-cut favorite, Wilson has the skills and talents to surprise a lot of people this season.
