The Kansas City Chiefs' special teams unit took a hit when Harrison Butker went down with an ankle injury in the team's season-opener. This same injury saw Butker miss Week 2 while backup Matt Ammendola filled in with a perfect 5-for-5 performance (3 extra points).

Despite Ammendola's successful fill-in duties, the Chiefs are eager to get Butker (one of the best kickers in the NFL) back in action.

But, that will have to wait a little bit longer.

Harrison Butker Injury Update

Kansas City made a final decision on Butker's availability for their Week 3 contest against the Indianapolis Colts. Butker was officially ruled out on Friday, according to NFL insider James Palmer.

Is Harrison Butker Playing in Week 3?

Butker will not be suiting up for Week 3, and now the earliest he can return from the ankle issue is Week 4 of the regular season when Kansas City visits the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ammendola will look to build off his strong Chiefs debut. This is a kicker that suited up in just 11 games for the New York Jets a year ago, and connected on a disappointing 68.4% of his field goal attempts (13-of-19).

On the other hand is Butker. Although he's never been officially recognized with Pro Bowl or All-Pro honors, his talents are indisputable. The six-year pro has never finished a season with less than 88.9% of his field goals made, including a league-leading 34 successful tries in 2019.

The Chiefs are on the verge of going 3-0. Heading into Sunday's clash, FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds show Kansas City as 5.5-point road favorites.
